“If you want to be somebody, buy a Ferrari. But if you are somebody, buy a Lamborghini” – Frank Sinatra.
When it comes to building some of the world’s fastest and most desirable cars, there are very few automakers that can rival renowned Italian sports car maker, Lamborghini. Over the last half a century, we have seen some truly amazing automobiles emerge from Sant’Agata Bolognese, such as the Miura, the Countach, the Diablo, the Murcielago, the Aventador, and last but not the least, the Huracan.
Replacing the legendary Gallardo, the Huracan has quickly established itself as one of the world’s premier mid-engined super sports cars. Here are three amazing facts you need to know about the latest “Baby Lambo”.
The Numbers Speak for Themselves
Although Lamborghini has been an established sports car maker for well over half a century now, it really struggled to match its perennial rival, Ferrari, in terms of sales number. However, that changes with the emergence of the Huracan. It took the Italian automaker only 4 years to build and sell 10,000 examples of the Huracan. To put things in perspective, the flagship V12 Murcielago only sold 4,099 during a decade-long production run between 2001 and 2010.
An Orgy of Mind-Blowing Performance Figures
The naturally-aspirated V10 engine of the Huracan creates around 610 hp. While it’s a monstrous figure, the Baby Lambo is outstripped by its main rivals, the Ferrari 488 GTB and the McLaren 720S, in terms of sheer power. However, when it comes to off-the-line acceleration, the Huracan will show both its rival a clean pair of taillights. Thanks to a clever 4WD system and a cutting-edge dual-clutch semi-automatic transmission, the Huracan can accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 2.6 seconds. That’s almost as fast as the $1 million Bugatti Veyron! Moreover, the Huracan has a top speed of 202 mph, and can complete the quarter mile in just 10.4 seconds.
Conqueror of the Green Hell
And it’s not only in the straight-line performance department where the Lamborghini Huracan shines. In October, 2016, the track-oriented version of the Huracan – the Performante – shattered the production car lap record at the famed NurburgringNordschleife circuit. The car it dethroned is Porsche’s million dollar hypercar, the 918 Spyder.
